The View From Federal Twist – Virtual talk
October 20, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm UTC-4
$15Oct. 20 – Federal Twist is a naturalistic garden with a difference. Set in a clearing in the woods in western New Jersey, it is a triumph of environmentally sensitive planting and fearless design. But what makes it different is its emotional power, the way the light falls to provoke certain moods, the energy of the place, how it allows space for dreaming, thinking, and being, and how it challenges us to reconsider our role as gardeners — because at Federal Twist, it’s not the gardener who is in charge but the place, its ecology, and the driving force of nature.

About the Speaker
James Golden, born in Mississippi, though a resident of New York City for most of his adult life, was a writer in the corporate world. Nearing retirement, and embarking on what he happily calls la vita nuova, he moved to a property in rural New Jersey to make a garden. He also began a now well-known blog, “The View from Federal Twist.” Now 15 years on, Golden is a celebrated garden maker and thinker whose garden, Federal Twist, has featured in numerous books and periodicals including The New York Times, Gardens Illustrated, and Elle Décor. He and his garden were also featured in the BBC film series American Gardens, hosted by Monty Don. Golden celebrated his tenth anniversary as an Open Days Garden Host in 2022.
